Culture Change within Our Home
"Culture Change" is the common name given to the national movement for the transformation of older adult services based on person-directed values and practices where the voices of elders and those working with them are considered and respected. Core person directed values are: choice, dignity, respect, self-determination, and purposeful living.
We are changing into personal communities; no more wards or wings. Each individual community is staffed by familiar care givers who are there to help their commuity's elders as they live lives of meaning, value, and joy.
Culture Change is about creating a home inside a nursing home, and that's what General Baptist Nursing Home is all about. Our neighborhood communities offer the best medical, personal, and health services any community member, however frail, will need. Each community is independent of others and has their own dining rooms where staff and elders eat meals together. Each day is informal (like any day at one's own home). The results are a truly rewarding and satisfying daily life for elders and staff alike. It's not home-like; rather, a true home.
Elders plan out their day. They choose when they want to rise in the morning, when they want to go to bed, and what they want to eat. Activities are scheduled each day. Elders choose to participate in those activities that they enjoy.
